Gujarati film ‘Chhello Show’ is India’s official entry for Oscars

The Gujarati film 'Chhello Show' has been selected as India's official submission for the Oscars in 2023.

The worldwide renowned film 'Chhello Show,' dubbed 'Last Film Show' in English, directed by Pan Nalin, has been chosen as India's official submission for the Oscars 2023. Set in a distant rural hamlet in Saurashtra, the film chronicles the narrative of a nine-year-old child who pays his way into a decrepit movie palace and spends a summer watching movies from the projection booth, sparking a lifelong love affair with cinema.

Nalin, well known for directing the highly acclaimed films "Samsara," "Valley of Flowers," and "Angry Indian Goddesses," expressed his appreciation to the FFI and the selection jury.

"I never anticipated such a day would occur and offer brightness and celebration of light." He lets him watch movies for free in return for his lunch box.

The 95th Academy Awards will be held in Los Angeles on March 12, 2023. The latest Indian film to reach the final five was Aamir Khan's "Lagaan" in 2001.
